At Quadra, we believe that meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities are built on respect, collaboration, and shared opportunity. Supporting youth education and Indigenous community engagement in Canada is one of the ways we aim to build strong, long-term relationships with the communities where we live and work.
One initiative that reflects this commitment is You Be The Chemist® (YBTC); an engaging hands-on STEM education program in Canada developed by Responsible Distribution Canada (RDC).
You Be The Chemist® is a hands-on science program offered at the invitation of schools and communities, designed to complement existing learning. Through fun, interactive experiments, the program encourages curiosity and builds confidence in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) for students.
The program is part of RDC’s broader Responsible Distribution® initiative, a leading chemical safety and sustainability program in Canada. Guided by eight core principles, Responsible Distribution® supports companies in advancing safe chemical handling, environmental responsibility, and community engagement across the chemical distribution industry.
Quadra has proudly delivered the You Be The Chemist® program for the past three years, working alongside educators and communities to deliver engaging hands-on STEM learning experiences in classrooms.
Recently, we were honoured to be invited to St. Anne’s School in Miawpukek First Nation, a vibrant Mi’kmaq community in Conne River, Newfoundland and Labrador, for our largest school visit to date. This milestone was made possible through collaboration with St. Anne’s School, Miawpukek First Nation, and our partners at Equinox Gold.
Programs like these highlight the importance of industry partnerships in education and creating accessible opportunities for youth to explore science in meaningful, engaging ways.
The enthusiasm and participation from students and staff made the visit especially memorable. Experiences like these demonstrate how hands-on science programs can foster engagement, confidence, and excitement in learning.
We are grateful for the opportunity to work alongside and learn from Indigenous communities across Canada. Initiatives like You Be The Chemist® are part of our broader commitment to corporate social responsibility, community engagement, and youth education.
As we look ahead, we are excited to continue building on this momentum and growing these relationships and opportunities together, expanding access to STEM education in collaboration with communities and partners.
