Building Safer Workplaces: Quadra’s Chemical Awareness Safety Training, and Community Preparedness
At Quadra, safety is one of our core values; it guides every decision we make, every partnership we build, and every community we support. This month, our EHS Manager returned to Newfoundland for our in-person safety training initiative, first launched in the East Coast in 2024. Our chemical safety training program is designed to help businesses meet essential safety and compliance requirements while improving the safe handling of chemicals and dangerous goods across their operations.
Empowering Workers Through Face-to-Face Training
Across several customer and supplier sites, our team delivered in-depth safety sessions to more than 40 total participants, including millworkers, operators, carriers, and office personnel. These sessions focused on the safe handling of 12 key reagents, ensuring that every individual who interacts with these materials understands the risks, responsibilities, and best practices required to manage them safely.
Our in-house safety technical experts bring decades of experience to these sessions, translating complex chemical and regulatory information into practical, actionable guidance.
Strengthening Community Preparedness
Safety doesn’t stop at the workplace. It extends to the communities where we live and operate.
During this year’s tour, our team hosted local fire centers to ensure firefighters are equipped to respond effectively to emergencies involving the transportation of dangerous goods (TDG). We provided specialized training to five township fire departments, helping first responders better understand the materials they may encounter and the safest ways to manage potential incidents.
This work strengthens community resilience and builds lasting relationships with the people who keep our towns safe.
Supporting Carriers and Drivers on the Front Lines
Carriers play a critical role in the safe movement of dangerous goods, and our team met with several transportation partners to identify training needs for drivers. By ensuring that carriers and their teams have access to the right knowledge and tools, we help create safer roads, safer workplaces, and safer communities.
